In Her Shoes: Billie Iveson
In your own words, please tell us what you do…
I am a creative consultant and fashion director. I left media after working at RUSSH Magazine for almost a decade and since then work with brands on their creative direction, consulting on their content and styling shoots.
Where are you from, and how did you come to be living life as you know it?
Funnily enough I live very close to where I was brought up - in Bondi. I always travelled so much for work and so I loved coming home to the beach. Being near the ocean has become more and more important in my life.
Which element of your work do you thrive off the most?
I love that everyday is different. Working closely with so many creative people in this industry constantly inspires me as well.
What are you listening to?
ceramicist Rachel Saunders 'Sounds to Feel sounds to Vol 2' playlist on Spotify.
What are your thoughts on the future of our industry? What do you see changing and what excites you most about this?
I think the future of the industry is a greater focus on small, slow and considered - which has been in motion for the last few years. While this last year has definitely been challenging, the creativity and introspection that has come with it has been a blessing. I think having the ability to stop the day to day grind and look to the big picture and ask yourself those questions about 'What do I want to be spending my time doing?' and 'What brings me joy?' is something I have been thankful for.
What pieces do you consider essential for a capsule wardrobe?
I have always had a tightly edited wardrobe due to travelling so much. Suits, blue jeans, a quality knit and a silk dress have always been part of my wardrobe.
Who inspires you?
I'm constantly inspired by looking to the past but also to many amazing people who currently wear many hats and aren't defined by one job title.
Has there been a particular moment that you’d consider the highlight of your career?
Many of my favourite memories of work have involved travel and being lucky enough to see different parts of the world. Attending the Dior Cruise 2019 show in Marrakech, shooting a swimwear story in Barbados and a trip to the South of France shooting a beauty story especially stand out. Having so many amazing relationships with creatives all over the world is also something I don't take for granted.
If you could give your younger self any advice based on everything you know now, what would it be?
Enjoy every moment as life moves so quickly. And try to enjoy those plane trips even when you feel like you live on one as soon you won't be able to travel for quite a while due to COVID!
